About Me
Lon of Distinct Performance
My Start
I've been working on cars for most of my life. Starting at 12, I've been working on and learning about cars and how they operate. My professional tuning experience started in 2015, and it has been a very steep learning curve. I'd say I'm so into it because I was so into gaming when I was younger and in some ways this reminds me of it very much. My Uncle, Lonnie Patrick, is a Drag Racer and watching his tuners help him achieve victories over the years caught my interest. Watching him change engine combinations over the years also showed me there's different ways of tuning to achieve the maximum efficiencies of the combinations. Looking back, I realize my tuning knowledge and experience started before I even thought I'd be a professional tuner.
My Experience
Starting in 2015, I got my first HP
Tuners MPVI Pro Interface. This was a defining moment for me because through learning how to use HPTuners, I actually learned I needed to have a very patient approach to this. I was overwhelmed with all the different parameters and terminology used by them as compared to something like a bigstuff3 or a MSD Ignition Control Module that I had more knowledge of. Instead of being scared to touch anything I made small changes and spent hours upon hours reading forum information and learning who on the forum I should actually listen to. Gathering information on tuning OEM computers is what I can easily say is and has been the most time consuming experience of anything else. I started with Gen 3 GM computers and at the time Gen 4 computers had already been out, with Gen 5 computers coming in heavy over the next few years. It's safe to say the learning is still ongoing, but the thing is, at this point I know it's never really going to stop. Every year manufacturers are coming out with something new and innovative with features that improve the drivability and control of these vehicles. I've learned I can't rush my process but I must stay dedicated to getting better everyday. After tuning multiple different and unique engine combinations with success, I became more confident in my abilities and was able to achieve better and better results for my clients.
My Goal
My goals for the future are to learn more about tuning different makes and models. European Performance is an interest of mine as well as some Japanese Makes. I also plan on helping others understand some of these subjects we talk about when it comes to tuning specific engines and computer systems. I plan on helping others from my own experiences and confirming the knowledge that I've gained from using others wise tuners and industry thought leaders.
